Manufacturing Engineer

JOB PURPOSE:

The Manufacturing Engineer supports production productivity goals and drives cost reductions through developing and implementing new/or improved manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, material flow or simplified product design.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Description of Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Drive productivity improvements by helping standardize machining processes, and improve efficiency and utilization of work cells, by focusing on setup reduction and standardization
  • Develop technologies for Industry 4.0, to include automation, robotics, and machine tool standardization
  • Develop modern, robust, machining methods (e.g., proper tooling application, upgraded quick change fixtures, setup reduction, documented process sheets, in-machine deburring, “one and done” setups)
  • Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements and by researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment
  • Improve efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout
  • Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods of finished product and by designing process capability standards
  • Provide manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, tooling, gaging and material costs; reviewing production schedules; and estimating future requirements
  • Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Manage all tooling, gaging & fixturing labeling, identification and storage, including proper consolidation, organization and removal of unused/outdated gages and calibration processes
  • Coordinate with tooling, fixturing, supply and equipment vendors on identification and implementation of current technologies
  • Provide quality support with random audits of workmanship in addition to providing first piece inspection for new prove-out parts using hard gaging, in addition to CMM
  • Develop CNC Programs using CAM software in addition to manual & macro programming
  • Create maintain all part routings and manufacturing standards within ERP system
  • Maintain storage of all CNC programs including assurance of latest revision
  • Design and develop concepts for fixtures and tooling by effectively working with product engineering
  • Support manufacturing improvement teams and Lean efforts
  • Support creation of Manufacturing Process Sheets and timely & accurate updating of documentation
  • Update and maintain accurate manufacturing routings & standards
  • Perform and assist with machine proveouts as needed
  • Support the promotion, sustaining, and improving of shop floor organization (5S)
  • Periodically flex schedule to off shifts and provide weekend coverage due to production demands

Description of other duties that may be assigned: Occasionally perform general shop duties including, but not limited to: material handling, simple deburring, non-skilled machining, and other production related duties as assigned by management. Must adhere to safety standards.  During high production peaks may be asked to perform machine setups & production work.  Perform light housekeeping duties (5S) duties as prescribed by management, and all other tasks as required by management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive machining & engineering applications experience
  • Knowledge of industrial robotics and manufacturing automation
  • Knowledge of modern fixturing, fixture design and tooling application
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with employees and management
  • Knowledge of CNC and conventional machining and machine shop theory
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions required in manufacturing setting
  • Mechanical assembly exposure
  • Solid understanding of CNC programming, G-Code and M-Code, machine tool setup and integration, tooling, macro-programming, fixture and gage design
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM software packages such as MasterCam, Camworks, Solid Works, Auto Cad
  • Knowledge of ISO or other quality standards
  • Functional computer skills, including MS Office suite

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CMM experience
  • Leadership and decision-making experience
  • General understanding of structural welding principles/concepts

CNC Machinist – Machining Centers

JOB PURPOSE:

Set-up, adjust and operate CNC machine tools to perform complex machining operations on a variety of close tolerance work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate CNC machining equipment, including vertical mills, horizontal lathes, horizontal boring bars, assorted manual machines, and a variety of supporting equipment, in order to perform a series of progressive machining operations to meet precise tolerance and finish requirements
  • Work from detailed drawings and specifications
  • Produce smaller, less complicated parts to larger, costly parts with complicated features having critical and exacting requirements as to tolerance and finish
  • Lay out and inspect workmanship
  • Diagnose and rectify tooling problems and machine malfunctions
  • Use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments and perform inspection of machining specifications and critical features
  • Participate in machining improvement and Lean Manufacturing efforts

Description of other duties that may be assigned: Perform general shop duties including, but not limited to: material handling, simple deburring, non-skilled machining, and other production related duties as assigned by supervision.

Must adhere to safety standards.

  • Strong sense of urgency and can-do approach, with a passion for reducing costs
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to communicate with employees and management
