Manufacturing Engineer

JOB PURPOSE:

The Manufacturing Engineer supports production productivity goals and drives cost reductions through developing and implementing new/or improved manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, material flow or simplified product design.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Description of Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

  • Team with Director of Operations, Manufacturing Support Engineer, Shop Supervisors, Shop Leads to drive productivity improvements in the shop by helping to standardize GHN machining processes, further development & efficiency gains of work cells (1 man – 2 machines) with primary focused emphasis on Setup reduction.
  • Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
  • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, tooling, gaging and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
  • Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Design and develop fixturing designs & concepts using Solidworks/AutoCAD
  • Develops modern, robust, machining methods (proper tooling application, upgraded quick change fixtures, setup reduction, documented process sheets, in-machine deburring, “one and done” setups, etc.)
  • Works with tooling, fixturing, supply and equipment vendors on identification, justification and implementation of current technologies
  • Develops CNC Programs using CAM program in addition to manual & macro programming
  • Support and leads manufacturing improvement Kaizens / Lean efforts
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Secondary backup to Plant Supervision
  • Position may be required to periodically flex to off shifts and provide weekend coverage due to production demands

CNC Machinist

JOB PURPOSE:

Set-up, adjust and operate shop CNC machine tools to perform complex machining operations on a variety of close tolerance work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set-up, adjust and operate shop machine tools to perform complex machining operations on a variety of close tolerance work
  • Operate CNC machining equipment, and a variety of supporting equipment to perform a series of progressive machining operations to meet precise tolerance and finish requirements.
  • Work from detailed and involved drawings and specifications. Machine types to include CNC Vertical Mills & CNC Horizontal boring bars, assorted manual machines, special purpose machines, etc.
  • Work can range from smaller less complicated work to large and expensive work or smaller work of complicated nature having critical and exacting requirements as to tolerance and finish.
  • Lay out and self-inspect workmanship.
  • Diagnose and rectify tooling problems and machine malfunctions.
  • Use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments and perform complex inspection of machining specifications and criteria.
  • Knowledge of deburring techniques and ability to operate a variety of deburr and finishing equipment.

Welder – Assembler

JOB PURPOSE:

Performs setup and all position welding on a variety of cylinder & baler fabrications etc. in accordance with code certifications, alignment, dimensional and general inspection requirements. Weld processes include; GMAW, TIG, Brazing. Assembles Industrial cylinders & baling equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Description of Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, process sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine welding requirements, setup procedures, control settings, methods and sequences.
  • Mounts, aligns, and secures fixtures (where applicable) and workpiece on table or machine.
  • Calculates and sets machine controls in relationship to workpiece and to regulate factors such as temperature and feed.
  • Prepares all material surfaces prior to welding, ensuring there are no defects, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
  • Starts machine and monitors machine operation to detect malfunctions.
  • Inspect completed welds for visible defects that would affect product quality.
  • Uses various gages, rulers, squares, levels and templates.
  • Stops machine to change wire and setup per required welding sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications.
  • Adjusts machine controls to correct malfunctions of out-of-tolerance welding.
  • Work subject to final inspection and testing.
  • Cleans various cylinder components
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, electrical schematics, process sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine assembly methods and sequences
  • Positions parts per knowledge of unit being assembled by following blueprints. Fastens parts together with bolts, screws, clips, rivets, plugs or other fasteners

  • Tests cylinders under specific pressure settings
  • Disassembles cylinders and various customer returns for salvage of parts
  • Recognize, report and work closely with production, engineering and quality personnel to correct errors
  • Recommends tooling / fixturing applications and operational sequences to assist in developing practical procedures for new and unusual welding or assembly requirements
  • Uses a variety of precision measuring instruments
  • Cleans machines, tooling, and parts
  • Performs required Total Preventative Maintenance duties to equipment

JOB PURPOSE:

The Drafter supports engineering department goals and helps with the generation and release of engineering documents in a timely manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drafter Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Use SolidWorks effectively to generate solid models and manufacturing drawings for various components.

Generate drawings for castings and forgings.

Generate assembly drawings of cylinders, valves and balers.

Generate hydraulic and pneumatic cylinder approval drawings for submittal to the customer.

Create Bills of Material and enter the item part numbers in the MRP Software and create the BOM in the system.

Process custom cylinder orders with minor modifications to the standard product line.

Carry out drawing revisions as necessary and issue Change Notices to various departments.

Must help with the proper maintenance of part number registers and other engineering departmental records.

Assist engineers with evaluation of returned cylinders and assist with reverse engineering the samples provided by the customers.

Assist with creating operation and service manuals for the cylinders, valves and balers.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and the Chief Engineer.

Must ensure accuracy in all the engineering documents created before release and, must demonstrate good quality of work in terms of document preparation, presentation and overall thoroughness.

Attention to details is a must.  Ensure that all drawings contain applicable specifications and engineering requirements.

Description of other duties that may be assigned: On a time to time basis, help manufacturing department with creating models and drawings for fixtures and tooling as necessary.

Provide support to Manufacturing – provide clarifications, modify prints to suit production requirements, etc.

Provide support and backup for other engineering department personnel during their absences and vacations.
